In her new album, UXIA-O, Uxía pays homage to one of the best Spanish poets of the 20th century, Uxío Novoneyra, dressing with music the poems with echoes of alalá (the oldest and form of Galician music), jazz, muiñeira, and powerful percussions. With this new project, Uxía explores new vocal registers that, added to the telluric sonority of Novoneyra’s poetry, create an space filled with magic, feeling and strength.
The band that accompanies her is comprised of top musicians from Galicia, three of whom (Quim Farinha on fiddle, Santi Cribeiro on accordion, and Isaac Palacín on percussion) belonged to one of the most innovative bands from the Galician contemporary folk scene, Berrogüetto. They are augmented by Breton harpist Bleuenn Le Friec (Ana Isabel Dias on the album), Cuban double bass player virtuoso José Manuel Díaz, and Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Sérgio Tannus, musical director of the band.
