Eterno Navegar, international premiere
Venres, Outubro 31st, 2008Tuesday, November 4, London - Atlantic Waves festival -
After being successfully presented in Galicia (North-Western Spain) and Madrid, Eterno Navegar arrives in London for the first concert of its European tour. It will be followed by concerts in Lisbon and Barcelona. The arrangements and sonorities by Paulo Borges, together with Uxia’s voice and the support of an exceptional band, make for a live concert that reflects the whole strength of this precious, delicate, sweet and salty album in which Uxia sails southbound.
Uxía has been the reference voice of Galician music for over 20 years. During this time she has never given up in her search for renewing the traditional music of her country, bringing it closer to other cultural influences. This long – awaited album is a fruit of her continuous seek for new horizons where she can reinvent herself. She makes a natural, innovative and contemporary mix of Galician roots with Portuguese and African songs. The result is a fifteen track album with a very personal style visiting very different Atlantic sounds like Galician alalá, morna from Cape Verde, fado…
Eterno Navegar is a very personal album in which songs written by the author herself, appear together with lyrics written by Galician poets as Curros Enríquez, Celso Emilio Ferreiro or Marica Docampo. It is a maturity work, full of sensibility, which shows openly the serene plenitude of the artist, for whom music, art and life are a whole, and growing up is an “eterno navegar” (‘eternal sailing’).

Reviewers’ opinions
“Uxía, serene wonder.” “…she hoists the flag of singing in Portuguese dialects, assuming a certain jazz colour, and gets soaked in Atlantic salt… Her instrumental line up itself is a rare example of a daring and cosmopolitan bet… One feels happy for being alive, even if it were only for keeping on listening to her voice..”
EL PAIS, oct 08 | Fernando Neira
“…It is like a good juice: fresh, light and nutritive. Her compromise with the style or styles she decides to pick, but especially her way of singing: naïve and sublime, sceptical and getting away from the role of “great voice” that in justice she deserves…”
ZONA MUSICAL oct 08 | Julián Callejo
“… Out of the splendid 15 tunes included in this ambitious work, in ‘Unha Noite na Eira do Trigo’, the wonderful voice of Uxia makes your hair stand”.
RITMOS DEL MUNDO, aug 08 | Briguitte Vasallo
“Uxia plainly persuades; each piece brings some elements that make it come to life and stick on our hearing skin… With her welcoming intimate style, she manages to give life to fifteen songs that breathe and move as if they were authentic living organisms, each one in its environment and with its own internal rhythm. “
B! RITMOS, aug 08 | Antonio Álvarez
“The diva of Galician song, Uxia, is sailing again. A woman who conquers stages and rises emotions singing a tango in a tavern or an alalá in a great theatre… Uxia is my friend, she is a reference voice for my generation“
UGÍA PEDREIRA (Galician singer), jul 08
The fascinating route of an artist who converted each travel into recognition, an incitation to the creative intimacy of musicians from all the shores… Basements on water, a hundred years waiting for the love of this artist, in order to build together her ‘eterno navegar’ (eternal sailing)”
XURXO SOUTO (Galician musician, writer and reviewer), jul 08
